For Grades 3 – 6
Fortune Lake invites all current 3rd through 6th graders to our Sacred Waters Retreat this October 11th-12th! Join us for a weekend of faith-building fun and a full schedule of camp favorites.
This year’s theme, “Sacred Waters,” will focus on baptism; what it is, why we do it, and what it means. Campers do not need to be baptized to come to this retreat! Our Bible Studies will take an accessible approach in hopes that everyone comes away with a better understanding of the radical promise that is Holy Baptism. The retreat will also include campfire worship, games, songs, outdoor play, and more! Our one-night retreats are a favorite with returning and first-time campers alike. The shortened experience is the perfect opportunity to visit camp and see old friends while enjoying some camp favorites as well as a chance to try things out before committing to the full week.
Campers may come as individuals, with friends, or with a group from their congregation. Fortune Lake is also excited to offer a training opportunity for adult youth leaders who attend the retreat. We highly encourage attendance of adult leaders and provide the option of staying in with the campers or staying in one of our lodges for an additional fee. Adults will experience the retreat alongside their youth and step out on Saturday morning to attend the training (see below).
Registration deadline for this retreat is October 4.
Adult Leader Workshop Option:
October 12, 2023
9:00 am – 12:00 pm CST
Saturday morning will feature a workshop for adult volunteers and church staff who work with youth. This year’s topic is the book Growing Young: Six Essential Strategies to Help Young People Discover and Love Your Church by Kara Powell, Jake Mulder, and Brad Griffin. This session will be led by Stefanie Ehle, Youth Ministry Coordinator for the Northern Great Lakes Synod, and other members of the Synod Youth Committee. You do not need to read the book to participate, but if you would like to, you can purchase it here: Growing Young Book
This workshop is free to everyone, whether you’re planning to attend the youth retreat or not. The synod will cover the cost of lunch for non-retreat attendees. If you’re planning to attend the workshop only, please email Stefanie for more information. The registration deadline is October 4.
People will have the option of continuing the conversation by participating in the Northern Great Lakes Synod’s Lifelong Faith Formation course on the same topic. For more information and to register for the extended class, visit the Lifelong Faith Formation page.
