I came to Fortune Lake telling people I wanted the time to write some things I had been planning to write. But, as I moved from day to day, something else happened. What I felt was spiritual in the best sense of that word.
Coming out of a year of lockdowns and restrictions, Paavo missed both the physical space at Fortune Lake as well as being a part of the community. In the midst of a meaningful Leader-in-Training experience he realized the need to make connections with his campers and to love every person that came to camp.
When Josh first came to camp it was High School Week, and he did not want to be here. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves; everyone except Josh. After an invitation from two campers to join in the experience, things began to shift for Josh.
We have received a grant from the Effective Camp Research Project/Siebert Foundation. The grant will support a unique research project at Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp this summer to demonstrate the impact of a one week camp experience on campers ages 10-17.
