Update from the Board of Directors

January 9, 2018

Dear ELCA Northern Great Lakes Synod/FLLC Association Member Congregations, Friends and Supporters of Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp:

It is with great sadness and sincere gratitude that the Board of Directors announces the resignation of Pastor Tracy Polzin as Camp Director, effective February 3, 2018. Pastor Tracy has been an integral part of a Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp revival. She arrived at camp 6 years ago amidst some pretty tough times. Her position required her to do the work that had formerly been done by two people. Pastor Tracy not only “arrived” at camp, but got to work and shone.

Under her directorship, Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp has become a place whose future is very bright. Pastor Tracy’s ideas and implementation of these ideas have played a key part in Camp getting to where it is today. The summer of 2016 saw the largest attendance that Camp has seen in recent times. During a time when most congregations’ Sunday School attendance is at an all-time low, this is no small feat! Fortune Lake is growing and thriving.

Pastor Tracy was also instrumental in two large Anniversary Celebrations that lead to great things at Camp. The new pavilion and the tree houses at Camp have both come to fruition under her leadership. Many innovative and new programs, including Rocket Camp and Night Owls, have been executed under her leadership. Additionally, there have been multiple young people who have sensed God’s call into ministry while working with Pastor Tracy.

Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp will be searching for a new Camp Director in the next few months. During this transition period, our top priority will be to find a new Camp Director that will keep the fires of Fortune Lake burning, and to keep Camp running as the stable and effective organization it has become.

We are so grateful for Pastor Tracy’s passion, dedication and enthusiasm for Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp. The Board, Staff, Campers and their families will all miss her and her family. We wish her nothing but success as she follows her calling into a different ministry. Join us as we ask the Lord to bless and keep her, shine countenance upon her, and grant her peace.

Dear Members of the board of directors,

Fortune Lake has been a Place of Grace for 87 years and I have been privileged to be part of it’s story for the last 6 years. I has been my honor to witness people find faith, be renewed, and discover leadership skills during my time here. I have seen the incredible impact that this place has on current staff and campers, but also to hear how it has been so for generations. It has been a place of grace for my family as we were welcomed into the Fortune Lake Family and our own children discovered the many blessings of living in a camp community

I am thankful for the opportunity to have been called to be the Camp Director at Fortune Lake. As I look into this new year, I am feeling called to a different ministry that will allow us to be closer to our family. I will complete my time at Fortune Lake on February 3.  Thank you to all who help make Fortune Lake the amazing place that it is. I am grateful for all of the support that you have given to me during my time at Fortune Lake.

I am convinced that the future is bright for Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp. It’s rich history will continue to serve it well as Fortune Lake continues to “drive faith forward.” I think the best is yet to come. New generations will learn about faith, the church will gain new leaders because of their time of learning and Fortune Lake and it will be place where people come to to be renewed.

I am happy to help with the transition in any way possible. Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp will always have a special place in my heart and will remain in my prayers.

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Tracy Polzin
